Hi, I'm Jefferson Heard.
When I was four, my dad taught me to read by teaching me to code. My evenings were Dad, Dr. Seuss and the TI-99/4A BASIC programming manual. I have been in software my whole life, whether I was writing games and screensavers as a kid, a professional software developer, a research scientist, a startup founder in the solar tech space, or as the top technical executive at Teamworks as it's grown into the global sports-tech giant it is today.
In 2024 I got the itch to be a founder again, so I launched on the Fractional CTO journey. My mission now is to find companies that are undergoing transformative growth and help them scale their technology and product organizations to meet new challenges. I am a software engineer at heart, but I cultivate a deep understanding of the business side of technology. I like to dive in and understand markets, users, and what qualities enable a product to take its place at the center of its ecosystem.
Outside of work, I read a ton of fiction, and I pursue my passion for growing things and restoring ecosystems on my hobby farm in the Blue Ridge mountains. I can pretty much always recommend you a book, fiction or non. And when we work together my swag tends to be things I'm making or growing, so if you get a package from me depending on the season it might be baked goods or jam or walnut syrup or even craft liqueur like my coveted nocino. My wife keeps me sane through all this. I also have a kid off in college, and four cats that turn the house inside out on a daily basis.
